Well, folks, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and you know what that means! It’s time to bring out the rosé!
Our favorite pink wine, also known as summer water, isn’t as simple as she may seem. Carefully crafted with the skins of red grapes, rosé is gorgeous and wonderful, and lovely to drink on a grassy knoll or sun-kissed patio.
The thing about rosé is that it’s just so utterly drinkable which means you better be prepared with some snacks to soak it all up.
Because it’s not overly robust or full-bodied and tends to bring notes of citrus and flowery fragrance, you can’t go wrong with a nice cheese board. Cheese also goes with everything. If this is the route you’re taking, Look for something creamy and fresh like burrata and mozzarella, or salty and fatty like goat cheese or feta. You could go with a funky blue or a rich goat’s milk gouda to add something interesting. For the charcuterie, a spicy Spanish Iberico ham or an oily chorizo would go quite nicely.
Fruit is also a good choice but be wise with your selections. Read the description of your bottle to seek out the fruity flavors that are part of the wine so to not compete or battle with it. If your rosé is on the tart side with lemon and citrus, you’ll want super sweet blueberries to balance it out. Look for fruits that are ripe and juicy sweet, rather than the sour white they might be before their time. Throw the fruit with your charcuterie and do some prosciutto-wrapped melon for a real crowd-pleaser.
Rosé has a delicate vibe and that’s how you should view the heartier food pairings as well. Think poultry like roasted duck or a baked lemon chicken. Vegetables are a great friend to this pink drink! Asparagus tarts with feta and basil or grilled vegetables with a tangy marinade are both light but delicious and won’t overpower any subtleties in the wine itself. Salmon is always a friend to rosé especially with lemon or herbs as a marinade or sauce.
The great thing we love about rosé is that it always hits the spot. It’s easy to find a bottle that appeals to all palates and tends to be a fine friend to all. Use the tasting notes and description on the label for some help in terms of the flavors inside which can guide you when pairing your food.
