Fall is that wonderful season where the leaves start to change, the temperatures begin to drop, and we search for delicious beverages to keep us warm. For some, that means hot chocolate or a mug of tea. For us, we turn to those gorgeous deep red wines, the ones with the dark and spicy flavors that would have been too heavy for summer but are perfect for October evenings.
Below is a list of five affordable red wines that you can enjoy this fall!
Opolo 2016 Summit Creek Zinfandel
Although California doesn’t really have a fall, they produce some outstanding red wines, and this Zin is no exception. It’s a great bottle for those who don’t love the really dark reds but still has that peppery zing. What makes it really great are the notes of vanilla and baking spice which means you can definitely have it with your pumpkin flavored everything. Paso Robles, $19
River’s Edge 2012 Barrel Select Pinot Noir
If you want a bold, warming red, then you want a Pinot Noir, and no one does it better than Oregon. This bottle has all of the delicious fall flavors like espresso, caramel, and cacao that are topped off with a high alcohol content and a generous dose of tannins that will heat you right up. Elkton, $23
It’s not often that we’d recommend a Sangiovese from anywhere but Italy, however, those Italians make some expensive wine. Our good friends in California have given us this very affordable and equally satisfying bottle that will pair with all of your favorite fall foods. It satisfies with aromas of cherry, sage, and even leather to give you a truly enjoyable wine. Sierra Foothills, $19

Our Daily Cab 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon
Ahh, the California Cab. We love any reason to drink one and a crisp autumn night sounds like a perfect reason. This bottle upholds the standards of any good California cab with smoky notes on top of rich red fruits and a whole lot of tannins. It’s ideal for a steak dinner or anything cooked over a campfire. California, $10
This red blend of Syrah and Negrette is one that would taste great all year round but we love the combination of its bold fruit flavors with a soft scarf and warm blanket. It’s dense and full and rich with tannins. What’s not to love? France, $15
