Join us for a special tasting with Suhru Wines as we kick off our 2022 virtual tasting series and discuss some great selections to buy in the New Year.
Established in 2008, Suhru Wines winemaking style and approach stems from head winemaker Russell Hearn's background and extensive experience in the industry. Suhru’s goal has always been to source excellent fruit from the regions in New York where each variety grows best.
Long Island is one of America’s most diverse wine growing regions. With a cool maritime climate, the region produces wine with moderate alcohol, intense aromatics, and crisp acidity.
Proximity to the ocean greatly influences the grapes grown on Long Island. Most similar in climate to Bordeaux, the East End has embraced “old-world” grape varieties.
Suhru encompasses all that the East End has to offer and incorporates the region’s sense of community and familial feeling into the expression of each of its wines.
Russell has made extensive contributions to the New York wine industry over the past 30 years with his wines garnering extensive critical acclaim and industry wide respect.
Australian born, he grew up around wine and started his career in Western Australia. His wine experience includes working in New Zealand, France, and regions across the USA.
As the head winemaker of Suhru Wines, Russell brings his knowledge, experience, and his relationships with quality New York State growers.
Shelby Hearn Ulrich is the General Manager of Suhru Wines.
Shelby’s life has always been rooted in wine. Growing up a winemaker’s daughter, she took an interest in the wine industry at a young age with her first memories including running through the vineyard, conducting “experiments” in the lab with her sister, and helping her dad during harvest.
A WSET certified wine marketing professional, Shelby got her start in the industry in 2005. She has since worked in tasting rooms, planted vineyards, hand-harvested grapes, bottled, worked in the cellar, and sampled her fair share along the way!
