Overview

Join us online for a virtual live tasting and discussion with two innovative founders, Mike Kurtz of Mike’s Hot Honey, and Ron Goerler of Jamesport Vineyards. These gentlemen are very familiar with each other, but they have never met in person. Jamesport Vineyards is one of Mike’s biggest on-premise consumers since the hot honey is a featured ingredient on Jamesport’s “Buddy Boy” pizza. The Buddy Boy is made with fresh mozzarella, spicy soppressata and a drizzle of hot honey.

MIKE’S HOT HONEY

  • Mike’s Hot Honey is America’s leading brand of hot honey.
  • Founded in 2010 by Mike Kurtz, the brand was born from a desire to create and share the highest quality honey infused with chili peppers. Mike began drizzling his signature hot honey on pizzas at the Brooklyn pizzeria where he worked, and customers started to ask if they could buy bottles to take home.
  • Mike’s Hot Honey became a word-of-mouth sensation, sparking the creation of a new category of honey. Headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, Mike’s Hot Honey can now be found on restaurant menus and retail shelves across the US.

PIZZA & JAMESPORT VINEYARDS

  • Several years ago Ron Goerler jr. had the idea of adding authentic wood fired pizza to his award-winning wine offering at his tasting room on the North Fork of Long Island.
  • The rest is history. He brought in an authentic Neapolitan pizza oven from Italy, burning at 900 degrees Fahrenheit.  He developed a pizza menu to pair with the wines.
  • Today  people from near and far beat a path to Jamesport Vineyards to enjoy great wine and food together.

MIKE KURTZ

  • While studying abroad in Brazil, Mike visits a pizzeria where he finds jars of honey with chilies sitting on the tables for drizzling on pies. He is blown away by how good it tastes on pizza.
  • While apprenticing at Paulie Gee’s pizzeria in Brooklyn, Mike brings in a bottle of Mike’s Hot Honey for Paulie to taste on a pizza. Paulie loves the combo. The Hellboy pie, with hot soppressata and a drizzle of MHH, becomes an instant hit.
  • Following repeated requests from customers, Mike begins bottling and selling 12 oz bottles of Mike’s Hot Honey off of the bar at Paulie Gee’s.
