Join us for a special tasting with Grgich Hills Estate, an award winning Napa Valley winery. Grgich Hills Estate opened in 1977 by Miljenko “Mike” Grgich after earning world-wide recognition in the famous 1976 Paris Tasting. With his fierce commitment to making wines of the highest quality, Mike began producing Grgich's signature wine: the exquisite, richly complex Chardonnays that delights wine lovers throughout the world. Today, Grgich Hills remains family owned and operated, practicing the art of winemaking by crafting food-friendly wines known for their consistency, quality, great balance and finesse.

The Paris Tasting of 1976

  • In a now-historic blind tasting, a panel of eminent French judges swirled, sniffed, and sipped an array
  • of the fabled white Burgundies of France and a small sampling of upstart Chardonnays from the Napa Valley.
  • When their scores were tallied, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, crafted by Mike Grgich, as the finest white wine in the world.

A Family Operation

  • After his victory in Paris, Mike laid the groundwork for the creation of Grgich Hills Cellars with his sister and Austin Hills.
  • They are deeply rooted in family in the pursuit of creating the best wines in the world
  • Today, Mike’s daughter, Violet Grgich, is President and Ivo Jeramaz, Mike’s nephew, is Winemaker/VP of Vineyards & Production.

Awards and Accolades

  • Alongside many other awards, Grgich Hills Zinfandel was awarded “Best Zinfandel Worldwide” & Grgich Hills Chardonnay has been named one of the Top 10 Chardonnays”
  • Grgich Hills Estate has been name Winery of the Year twice in its history in 1992 and 2007.
  • Grgich Hills Chardonnay has been poured for the Queen of England, the King of Spain and in the White House for 3 separate administrations.

  • Great wine begins in the vineyard. As a farmer you want to do right by the land and be proud of what you grow and produce. The concept of terroir is rooted in the idea of place.
  • Organic farming allows the land to be unadulterated, thus the wine will show the true essence of the vineyard.
  • Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, Grgich Hills Estate farm five estate vineyards without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides and rely on wild yeast fermentation to create certified organic wines.
