Overview

Castello di Volpaia is located in an 11th-century village of the same name. It resides on a hilltop in the Chianti Classico region. The winery has a long history -- 800+ years -- and it is owned by the Mascheroni-Stianti family. The vineyards produce organic, Sangiovese-based wines that are elegant and nuanced in nature. Volpaia's wines are of the highest quality and recently made it onto the Wine Spectator's "Top 100 of 2020". In addition to the winery, Volpaia has villas, apartments, and rooms for rent, and it offers cooking classes and tastings.

HISTORY AND TRADITION

  • Today, as in the eleventh century, the entire village around Volpaia is intimately involved in the wine and olive production.
  • The vats and cellars, the vinsantaia and bottling, the orciaia and the mill – while very modern – are still housed in the basements, in the buildings, in the deconsecrated churches and in the buildings of the village, joined together by a surprising “wine pipeline” underground.
